Intern training Program
The internal internship program at Miguel Hernández University aims to regulate and promote a practical training plan for its students, to be carried out within its own facilities, departments, centers, groups, institutes, and ultimately, in any of its units and services that perform tasks relevant to the students’ professional development. This plan is based on two reasons:
- The constant increase in the importance of student internships in their different forms (practicum, free configuration credits, practical subjects, etc.).
- The University is convinced that the modern techniques and tools used in its various units and services complement and, above all, increase the number of places available to accommodate as many of its students as possible. In this regard, the University itself intends to lead by example and, as an institution, assume the role of providing practical and professional training that it is requesting from public and private entities.
Internship Management
- Those receiving financial aid for their studies must follow the instructions provided in the information on paid internships.
- Without financial aid for studies, the following procedure will be followed:
-
- If the student has already been selected, the student can formalize the necessary internship documentation .
- If the student selection process has not yet been completed and you wish to publish an internship offer, the department/service/unit must advertise it through the Occupational Observatory’s company access portal (access in “private browsing” mode is recommended to avoid login issues). If you do not have access credentials as an organizational unit (services, departments, units, etc.), please contact the Observatory .
Considerations
- Internships are a training activity, therefore, their content must be directly related to the studies undertaken by the student.
- The maximum duration of unpaid internal academic internships will be 900 hours in a single academic year, with a limit of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week. In the case of paid internships, the provisions of the budget regulations will apply .
- A maximum of 1,800 hours of practical training will be carried out at UMH, regardless of whether it is paid or unpaid. Curricular internships are not included in the hourly rate mentioned above.
- All those who wish to carry out practices in which they may have contact with minors , must be in possession of a negative certificate from the Central Register of Sex Offenders .
- In case of accidents, students are considered equivalent to workers and must follow the following guidelines: Accident Protocol
Applicable regulations
- The current regulations governing the performance of internships in companies by university students are Royal Decree 592/2014, of July 11, published in the Official State Gazette on July 30, 2014 .

Therefore, the corresponding withholding tax on account of Personal Income Tax must be applied to the amount of the grant or study aid received by the student .
- On the other hand, and in compliance with the provisions of Article 1 of Royal Decree 1493/2011, of October 24, which regulates the terms and conditions for inclusion in the General Social Security Scheme of persons participating in training programs, in development of the provisions of the third additional provision of Law 27/2011, of August 1, on the updating, adaptation and modernization of the Social Security system: those who participate in training programs financed by public or private entities or bodies that, linked to university studies or vocational training, are not exclusively academic in nature but include the performance of training internships in companies, institutions or entities and entail financial compensation for the participants, whatever the concept or form in which it is received, are assimilated to employed workers, for the purposes of their inclusion in the General Social Security Scheme, provided that the performance of said programs does not give rise to an employment relationship that determines their registration in the respective Social Security system.
- Internal internships (those carried out by UMH students at UMH itself) are regulated by the Governing Council Agreement of 08/11/06 which approved the Regulations for the Internal Internship Plan of UMH Students .
