Procedure

tutors-p The system for designating clinical practice tutors is through a census mechanism , which means that after the first incorporation of tutors in the 2014/15 academic year, only the additions and removals of new tutors are managed.

Each year, the Occupational Observatory informs the departments of the opening of the process , requesting them to indicate the variations in the list of tutors with respect to the previous year.

The departments , in collaboration with the professors, affiliated professors and the health departments, collect the information from these tutors and submit the complete list of tutors who leave and join.

  •  In addition, tutors who join will complete the  Clinical Practice Tutor Registration Application.

The removal and assignment of tutors will be carried out from the application created for this purpose through the identified access of the authorized Personnel.

Once the information has been collected, the university departments will send the list of tutors and documentation for the registration of those who wish to have their collaboration with the clinical practices recorded.

The Observatory will then cross-reference the internship data with student assignments in the specified subjects and specializations. This will form the basis of the internship annexes, which will be ratified with a signature by the Director of the Health Department corresponding to each health district.

Certificates for tutors will be issued upon request, by sending an email to observatorio[@]umh.es

Considerations:

  • The only document the tutor needs to process is the “application for registration as a clinical practice tutor.” It is not necessary to collect a CV; the department has the authority to propose tutors. The Occupational Observatory does not assess the suitability and/or capacity of the proposed tutor; they will only verify the following for registration purposes:
  • That the center to which the tutor belongs has planned the performance of internships by university students
  • That the application for registration as an attached clinical practice tutor has been facilitated for each tutor.
  • To certify tutors, it is necessary to demonstrate effective supervision of internships . This is done by cross-referencing tutor information provided by university departments with the groups and schedules facilitated by UMH degree programs. Subsequently, these are ratified by the health department management in each case.
  • To certify internships in centers other than those planned (for example, in non-university hospitals), students must be referred to the Occupational Observatory as soon as the situation arises. This will ensure the certification of supervisors at these centers and improve insurance coverage for these students in case of accidents or claims.
  • It is not appropriate to appoint as clinical practice tutors those professionals who do not effectively tutor students in the subjects included in the curriculum. For other types of collaboration with university departments, other more suitable roles should be considered.
  • In those courses where students manage their own internship documentation, the tutors proposed in their internship annexes will automatically become clinical internship tutors, without requiring notification from the department. This applies to the Clinical Placement courses in the Bachelor’s degrees in Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, and Occupational Therapy. If you are unsure whether this applies, please consult the Occupational Observatory.
  • If you notice any issues with people who have not received the certification of supervision of internships from previous courses, please let us know so we can resolve it as soon as possible.
