Accident Protocol for Students on Internships
If you are a student on an internship and have suffered an accident, it is essential that you know the steps to follow to guarantee your medical assistance and Social Security coverage.
[!IMPORTANT]
Who does this protocol apply to?
This procedure is exclusively for students whose Social Security contributions are covered by the UMH:
Curricular Internships in external centers (unpaid).
Internal Internships (both paid and unpaid).
Extracurricular Internships (unpaid) in public administrations.
1. Immediate Medical Assistance
In case of an emergency, your health comes first. Go to the nearest hospital. You will be treated as a patient, but remember to inform them that the accident occurred during your internship activity.
2. Mandatory Step: The Mutual Insurance (ASEPEYO)
Once you are discharged from the hospital (or if your condition allows you to travel), it is mandatory to visit an ASEPEYO medical center.
Why is this important?
Only the medical staff at the Mutual Insurance company can perform the official assessment of a work-related accident and, if necessary, issue a medical leave certificate (baja médica). The Mutual Insurance company is already informed of these situations by the university.
